Experience Nairobi with city's best storytellers, former street children brought up in Downtown!
We are Kissmart, Donga and Mrembe, former street children and youths from the Mathare slum - one of the biggest slums in Nairobi. We ran away from home and raised ourselves from an early
age on the streets of Nairobi. To survive, we started begging, then stealing
until we turned into gangsters. At this point, we realised that
we need to change our lives. But the world doesn’t have anything to offer for
people like us. The same counts for the other 300,000 street kids in Kenya who
also have a long criminal record and lack of formal education. That’s why we
came together to create our own job. We built on the only thing we had acquired
on the streets: Street Skills and a Life Story. With the aim to give youths like
us a future in life, we founded the social enterprise Nai Nami and turned our
past into our future by inspiring you with our stories!
On an intimate, one-to-one tour in the city centre, we will make you experience our former “home” by inspiring you with our life stories. We show you how we survived through begging and hustling, teach you our street skills and give you the real local insights. We update you about the street dynamics, how to bargain at local markets, and how to use local slang to become more street smart. Even more important, we will share with you how we transformed to reasonable young men, how we look back on our former lifestyle and how we are nowadays trying to improve the situation of our families and friends. Nobody will be able to give you these insights the way we do. The tour is one-on-one (max. two guests per guide) to facilitate an inspiring exchange between you and your guides and to give you the opportunity to ask all your questions.
SOCIAL IMPACT: By booking our Nai Nami Experience you give
street children and disadvantaged youths from slums an opportunity to earn a
regular income and have a better future in life!
